Reku Habtamu comes from Reku, a small area within Banko Gotiti in Ethiopia's Gedeb district. At the Banko Gotiti washing station, Habtamu Getu oversees coffee supplied by several hundred surrounding smallholders, many of whom cultivate only one or two hectares alongside other crops.
Fresh cherries arrive daily and are sorted for ripeness before depulping and an overnight fermentation in water. After rinsing, the coffee dries on raised beds for approximately 15 to 18 days. This washed process produces a crisp, juicy cup with peach, blueberry and Earl Grey notes. Offered here for filter brewing, it highlights the clean fruit, delicate tea-like aromatics and sweetness associated with classic washed Ethiopian coffees.
