Manhattan Coffee Roasters

Manhattan Coffee Roasters was founded in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 2017 by Ben Morrow and Esther Maasdam. Morrow brought an Australian barista background and international competition experience; Maasdam contributed her own career in Dutch specialty coffee and latte art.

Morrow won Coffee Masters in New York in 2015 and London in 2016, as well as the 2016 Australian Latte Art Championship. Those disciplines demand both sensory judgement and close control of preparation, skills that carry into Manhattan’s coffee programme.

The roastery is known for light profiles, distinctive varieties and small lots developed through relationships with producers. Its selection often explores the influence of processing while aiming to retain clarity and sweetness. Despite the name, Manhattan’s roots are firmly Dutch: it references Rotterdam’s historic connection with New York through the Holland America Line.
