The Barn Coffee Roasters

THE BARN was founded in Berlin, Germany, in 2010 by Ralf Rüller. Its first café opened in the city’s Mitte district, and the business developed around a focused idea: present individual coffees with enough care that their origins remain recognisable.

The roastery specialises in single-origin coffee and does not build its range around blends. Light roasting is used to preserve the qualities of the green coffee, with sourcing centred on identifiable producers and relationships that can continue across harvests.

That approach has earned industry recognition, including Crema magazine’s 2025 Roaster of the Year award. THE BARN also connects its coffee buying with longer-term projects at origin, including work in Rwanda. Its restrained presentation reflects the coffee programme itself: the producer, the lot and the flavour take priority, making it a particularly clear expression of Berlin’s modern specialty coffee culture.
