Datura Coffee - Alo 74158 - Ethiopia - Honey
Tasting notes: Soft florals, blood orange, apricot, blueberry
This honey-processed 74158 comes from Alo Village’s main station in Bensa, Sidama, Ethiopia, at 2,400 metres. Producer Tamiru Tadesse founded Alo Coffee with his wife Messi, building a project centred on local growers and the potential of Sidama’s high-altitude coffees. The lot offers a different expression of the same variety featured in Alo’s Mosto and Sky Project coffees.
Uniformly ripe cherries are handpicked and sealed in plastic tanks for 48 hours of anaerobic fermentation. They are then depulped for honey processing and dried on raised African beds for 35 days. Frequent turning and protection from the midday sun help manage the drying. The coffee rests for at least 45 days before milling.
Datura’s tasting card combines soft florals, blood orange, apricot and blueberry. Citrus and berry notes sit alongside a delicate floral element, giving this lot a distinct place in the Alo selection. The processing includes an anaerobic stage, but its final preparation is honey rather than whole-cherry natural.
