Datura Coffee - Hacienda La Esmeralda Aguila 4NC Gesha - Panama - Natural
Tasting notes: Bergamot, watermelon, violet, blackberry, jasmine
Aguila 4NC is a natural Gesha from Hacienda La Esmeralda’s El Vélo farm in Boquete, Panama. The lot grows at 1,850 metres and belongs to the Peterson family’s renowned coffee programme. Their 2004 Best of Panama victory helped bring Panamanian Gesha to international attention, but this selection is identified by its own Aguila plot and 2026 harvest.
The cherries were harvested on February 16, 2026 and dried whole for 44 days on raised beds inside a climate-controlled drying room. Constant airflow and precise management of temperature and humidity distinguish this process from a simpler outdoor natural. The long drying period is an important part of the lot’s identity.
Datura lists bergamot, watermelon, violet, blackberry and jasmine. Citrus, juicy fruit and darker berries are accompanied by two distinct floral notes. Aguila offers a useful comparison with Porton 2NB: both are natural Geshas from El Vélo, but they come from different elevations and use different drying schedules. This lot highlights the detail available within a single celebrated farm.
